Dr. Ashutosh Dongre, an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon, was born in Akola into a family deeply rooted in the government agricultural sector. As the first doctor in his family, Dr. Dongre realized his childhood dream of entering medicine through unwavering dedication. After completing his schooling in Akola, he pursued MBBS at MIMSR Medical College, Latur and internship at Government Medical College, Aurangabad. He moved to Delhi for postgraduate entrance preparation, concurrently gaining clinical experience at Saint Parmanand Hospital, Civil Lines, Delhi . He successfully secured a Postgraduate Diploma in Orthopaedics at Dr. L.H. Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai, under the mentorship of renowned spine surgeon Dr. S.K. Shrivastav of KEM Hospital, Mumbai. His training was further enriched by working with Dr. Vijay D. Shetty and Dr. Sanjeev Jain in joint replacement and orthopaedic surgery.
Following his post-graduation, Dr. Dongre completed his first fellowship in "minimally invasive and endoscopic spine surgery" under Dr. Pradeep Kumar Singh at Dr. L.H. Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai. He then underwent a second, two-year fellowship in "advanced trauma and joint replacement "at SKR Hospital, Pathankot, Punjab. During this time, he conducted outreach OPDs in Kathua, Jammu, and regularly provided free surgeries at Radha Soami Satsang in Sirsa, Haryana. His dedication led him back to Mumbai during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he practiced alongside Dr. Saurabh Talekar at Wholistic Care Center, Kandivali, Mumbai. Later, as part of a WHO and World Bank-funded healthcare initiative, he served the rural population of Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, assisting numerous Kedarnath and Badrinath pilgrims with orthopaedic care over a two-year period.
Dr. Dongre has actively contributed to handicap camps and rural health check-ups, and has collaborated with the Indian Red Cross and the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority. He has also provided orthopaedic specialist services during VVIP duties for several dignitaries, including Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Governor Gen. (Retd.) Gurmit Singh, and Tourism & Culture Minister Shri Satpal Maharaj.
Dr. Dongre enhanced his global credentials by earning his MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, one of the world’s oldest surgical colleges, founded in 1505. He then worked as a consultant at Gujarat Hospital in Sirohi, Rajasthan, followed by a year of freelance surgical practice in Badlapur, Thane. He currently serves as a full-time orthopaedic consultant at Global Hospital, Ravet, PCMC, Pune, Maharashtra. With three international publications to his name, his academic interest complements his surgical expertise.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Dongre is actively involved in community health outreach and humanitarian surgery. He is passionate about improving healthcare access in underserved regions and frequently participates in charitable medical initiatives. A man of many talents, he also finds solace in music, particularly playing the Tabla.
